In October, Vandalia Health Mon Preston Memorial Hospital teamed up with local partners in Preston County to boost awareness about breast cancer. This initiative emphasized the importance of preventive health education.
Main Street in Kingwood was decorated with pink bows, and there were “Pink Out” sports games organized in schools. Hospital staff and volunteers joined community leaders to stress how essential early detection and regular screenings can be in fighting breast cancer.
Kim Liston, the Community Programs Coordinator, shared, “Our goal is to support the health of our community. We live alongside our friends and families, and it’s crucial they have access to excellent care. Encouraging women to schedule their mammograms is key to this.”
Melissa Lockwood, the Chief Administrative Officer, added, “These events show our dedication to caring for the community, both in and out of the hospital. We are committed to making sure everyone in Preston County has the resources for healthy living.”
Further enhancing its mission, Mon Preston Memorial Hospital is expanding its services. They are building a new infusion and oncology center. This project aims to bring advanced cancer treatment options closer to home, ensuring patients receive top-notch care without long travels.
Dr. Michael Craig, a Medical Oncologist at the hospital, explained, “Our patients gain from the skill of oncology specialists throughout our system, while still getting coordinated care nearby. This means they can access the latest treatments and support from loved ones.”
Throughout October and beyond, Vandalia Health Mon Preston Memorial Hospital honors breast cancer survivors and supports those currently in treatment. They advocate for early detection and prevention, which are critical in saving lives.
