Empowering Education: NPRC and Wilson College Join Forces to Strengthen the Workforce – LocalNews1.org

Wilson College has partnered with Northern Pennsylvania Regional College (NPRC) to create a smooth pathway for students pursuing a career in education. This agreement allows graduates of NPRC’s Associate of Applied Science in Early Childhood Education to transfer directly into Wilson’s Bachelor of Arts programs in Early Childhood Education or Special Education, with no loss of credit.

Students can transfer up to 60 college credits from NPRC, which can count towards Wilson College’s general education requirements and specific degree courses. This opens doors for paraeducators who want to become K-12 special education teachers. By collaborating, both colleges aim to address the shortage of qualified special education teachers not just in Pennsylvania, but across the country.

Another significant benefit of this agreement is the flexibility it offers. Students can complete their bachelor’s degrees remotely through a mix of online classes and live instruction. They can even fulfill their student-teaching requirements at their current workplace, making it easier to balance work and studies. This initiative is especially important for paraeducators looking to advance their careers without having to change jobs or relocate.

Dr. Lynn Newman from Wilson College emphasized the importance of this partnership in responding to the ongoing teacher shortage. She noted that the agreement helps paraprofessionals earn their bachelor’s degrees while staying in education settings where they are already building connections with students.

Dr. Ben Malczyk of NPRC highlighted how valuable this arrangement is for working paraeducators. He mentioned that it allows them to continue working in their schools while completing their required courses in the evening. Importantly, financial support is also available to help make this educational pursuit more attainable.

NPRC will provide academic advising to prepare students for their transfer to Wilson College. They will assist with ensuring students meet the prerequisites for their future degrees, help with the application process, and maintain communication with Wilson to ensure the quality and transferability of the programs.
