The DTE Foundation is stepping up to tackle food insecurity in Michigan with a commitment of $300,000. This funding will support organizations like the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan, Food Gatherers, Forgotten Harvest, Gleaners Community Food Bank, and Feeding America West Michigan. These groups work hard to provide nutritious meals and expand food distribution for families in need.
Rodney Cole, president of the DTE Foundation, stated, “Families across Michigan face real challenges putting food on the table. We’re proud to collaborate with our partners to ensure nutritious meals reach those who need them most. It’s about caring for our neighbors and strengthening our communities.”
Gerry Brisson, president and CEO of Gleaners Community Food Bank, added, “Our fondest memories and celebrations often revolve around shared meals. When we tackle hunger together, we uplift the entire community. We’re thankful for partners like the DTE Foundation, whose support nourishes families today and in the future.”
Dr. Darienne Hudson, president and CEO of United Way for Southeastern Michigan, emphasized, “Thanks to partners like the DTE Foundation, our Every Family Fed Fund helps those affected by disruptions in critical nutrition programs like SNAP continue to access food. We appreciate all of our donors and community partners for their generous support during this crucial time.”
This latest pledge adds to the Foundation’s impact this year, bringing its total investment to over $1,062,000 across 39 organizations focused on combating hunger statewide. The DTE Foundation is committed to ensuring every family, from the Upper Peninsula to Southeast Michigan, has access to healthy food.
As food insecurity rises, experts highlight an alarming trend. A recent survey shows that over 20% of households in Michigan struggle to secure enough food. Such statistics reveal the urgent need for ongoing support and initiatives. Community collaboration has proven vital in fighting hunger, with social media buzzing around local food drives and fundraising events to help those in need.
In this fight against hunger, local programs are making significant strides. Together with organizations like the DTE Foundation, we can ensure no one goes hungry. With shared efforts, we can help families receive the nourishment they deserve.
