LMU College of Communication and Fine Arts celebrates its graduate students from the Marital and Family Therapy / Art Therapy program. They are the proud recipients of the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (DMH) Graduate Stipend. This competitive program supports students who will work in the county’s public mental health system.
Each year, LA County awards a stipend of $18,500 to 144 students in their final year of clinical fieldwork. This initiative aims to foster a skilled workforce in public mental health.
“LMU has a strong history of our graduates receiving these stipends. They go on to help diverse and underserved communities in Los Angeles,” said Practicum Coordinator Kathleen Fogel-Richmond. “Our alumni often build successful careers in public mental health, dedicated to supporting those most in need.”
The following LMU students were honored as LA County MFT Stipend Award winners:
- Aida Sixtos
- Charliemange Tapia
- Inah Marie Mango
- Jennifer Dang
- Jessica Ramirez
- Natasha Daniels
- Rudy Falagan
Additionally, some students were recognized as alternates for the stipend program.
Department Chair Louvenia Jackson noted, “These awards show our students’ commitment to equity and excellence in clinical practice. They support not just our students financially but also highlight the vital role art therapy plays in improving mental health across Los Angeles County.”
Investing in students during their training helps tackle workforce shortages and increases access to mental health services in the region. Recent data indicate that areas with increased mental health support see significant improvements in community well-being. In fact, a report from the National Institute of Mental Health highlighted that communities with more accessible mental health programs experience lower rates of mental health issues.
This recognition underscores the excellence of LMU’s Marital and Family Therapy / Art Therapy program. It also reflects the university’s commitment to social justice and community service. LMU congratulates these students and looks forward to their future contributions within the public mental health system of Los Angeles County.
