Empowering Health: Infosys Foundation Extends Funding for Diabetes Center and Unveils ‘Dixit Lifestyle’ for Better HbA1c Control

Dr. Jagannath Dixit, known for his work in combating obesity and Type 2 diabetes, recommends a simple yet effective eating plan. He suggests eating only when you’re truly hungry, limiting meals to twice a day. This approach focuses on increasing protein intake and reducing carbohydrates. He believes that keeping meal times under 55 minutes can promote better health.

Recent studies highlight a growing concern: around 101 million people in India are affected by Type 2 diabetes, according to the ICMR-INDIAB survey. Dr. Dixit emphasizes that by eating less frequently, insulin levels drop. This leads to significant benefits like weight loss and lowered body fat, which can help prevent or even reverse diabetes.

At the Pune-based Association for Diabetes and Obesity Reversal (ADORE), Dr. Dixit and his team guide individuals in managing their weight and diabetes without medication. Data shows that about 3,500 patients have enrolled, averaging around 6.2 kg of weight loss over six months. Notably, 398 patients have managed to lower their HbA1c levels—indicating better blood sugar control—below 6.5% without any medication for at least three months.

In partnership with the Infosys Foundation, Dr. Dixit launched the “Infosys Foundation Diabetes Care Program” in late 2022, with centers now established in Pune, Nagpur, and other cities like Nashik and Thane. Patients benefit from free medical check-ups and counseling services, thanks to generous funding and community support.

Success stories have surfaced from these programs. For instance, Vithal Thorat, a retired police constable, dramatically improved his health. His HbA1c level fell from 16.7 to 6.2 within five months by following Dr. Dixit’s dietary recommendations. This change propelled him towards a healthier life at age 62, showcasing how lifestyle modification can lead to remarkable health improvements.

Dr. Dixit notes that some patients have not only controlled their blood sugar but have also quit smoking by adopting lifestyle changes. These successes demonstrate the potential impact of a focused dietary approach, emphasizing a healthier future for many.
