ALPENA – The Zonta Club of Alpena recently wrapped up its 18th annual Zonta Walks for Women event. This special occasion honors those affected by breast cancer and promotes the importance of early detection. The club proudly donated $5,269.84 to the Breast Health Fund at MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena.
Eileen Budnick, who leads the Zonta Walks for Women committee, handed over the check to Ann Diamond from the MyMichigan Health Foundation, along with Steve Hand, the imaging services manager at the medical center.
This year, the event featured contributions from local organizations to help participants learn about breast cancer and available resources. Budnick emphasized, “We wanted to highlight how the funds are used, the organizations benefiting from our efforts, and the critical role of early detection.”
In 2024, MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena upgraded its Breast Health Suite. They combined the waiting area, patient exam rooms, and imaging labs into one central location. This change has made visits smoother and has improved the overall experience for patients. The Zonta Club played an essential part in this transformation by helping fund a new ultrasound machine for the suite.
Hand expressed gratitude for the partnership with Zonta, stating, “Our collaboration drives improvements in breast health services, like hiring a Breast Health Navigator and providing comfort items for patients. Community support has been vital for these advancements.”
The MyMichigan Health Foundation raises funds to support patients and their families through equipment and services. If you’re interested in learning more about the Breast Health Fund or the Foundation, you can reach out to Ann Diamond at ann.diamond@mymichigan.org or call (989) 356-7738.
