NEW DELHI: “India is moving forward with confidence under Prime Minister Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat,” said Dr. PK Mishra, the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister. He spoke at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Mumbai’s convocation, where he congratulated graduating students from MBA, Executive MBA, and PhD programs. IIM Mumbai has impressively climbed to the sixth position among India’s top IIMs.
Dr. Mishra stressed that success is a team effort. He acknowledged the vital roles of teachers, family, and peers, adding, “This degree carries their love and support along with your own hard work.”
He addressed the tough global challenges we face today, like the Covid-19 pandemic, trade conflicts, and climate change. Despite these hurdles, he noted that India is showing resilience and is committed to the vision of a developed nation by 2047, guided by the mantra “Reform, Perform, and Transform.”
India is becoming a hub for innovation, boasting over 100 unicorns and around 190,000 startups. Dr. Mishra highlighted initiatives such as the Rs 1 lakh crore Anusandhan National Research Fund and the IndiaAI Mission, which aim to bolster the country’s technological landscape.
He also talked about the importance of soft skills. “Technical know-how is important, but teamwork and values like respect and humility are crucial too,” he emphasized. This is especially relevant in today’s work environment, where collaboration can lead to greater success than individual achievements.
Dr. Mishra encouraged graduates to commit to lifelong learning. In a fast-changing world, staying updated is essential. He noted the challenge of instilling values in large organizations and stressed the need for ongoing motivation.
On the topic of administrative reform, he shared insights on the changes in civil service management since 2014, aimed at modernizing it for the 21st century. A key improvement has been the overhaul of the empanelment process for senior government positions, ensuring a more efficient approach to personnel management.
According to a recent survey by the World Economic Forum, 50% of employees believe that soft skills will be essential in the job market by 2025. This further backs Dr. Mishra’s argument that cultivating a positive attitude is just as important as gaining technical skills.
In summary, as India strides towards its ambitious goals, the blend of innovation, teamwork, and lifelong learning will be crucial in navigating the complex challenges ahead.
