Bengaluru, Aug 10 (IANS) — Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently encouraged Indian tech companies to focus on the nation’s needs. Speaking at the IIIT Auditorium in Bengaluru, after laying the foundation for the Metro Phase 3 project, he emphasized the importance of prioritizing local innovation over global trends.
He introduced the concept of “Tech Atmanirbhar Bharat,” suggesting that while Indian tech firms have made significant strides worldwide, it’s time to shift focus back to domestic requirements. He noted that manufacturing new products tailored for India’s needs should take precedence.
“Software and apps are everywhere today. We must aim for India to be a leader in this area,” Modi asserted. He called on companies to adhere to the “zero defects, zero effect” principle, ensuring quality in products while remaining environmentally conscious. His confidence in Karnataka’s talent reflects a vision for an economically self-reliant India.
India has witnessed remarkable growth in its export sector over the past decade. Before 2014, total exports stood at $480 billion; today, they have surged to $850 billion. Bengaluru plays a crucial role in this transformation, particularly in mobile phone manufacturing. The country has moved from being an importer of mobile phones to one of the top five exporters.
The Prime Minister highlighted similar advancements in electronics and automobiles. Exports of electronics rose from $6 billion to $38 billion, while automobile exports doubled from $16 billion. These achievements are vital for realizing the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision.
Furthermore, Modi emphasized the intertwining journeys of New India and Digital India. He discussed India’s ambition in artificial intelligence and semiconductor technology, predicting the emergence of a “Made in India” chip. With low-cost, sophisticated space missions, India’s capacity for innovation is noteworthy.
Digitalization has extended even to rural areas, with over 50% of global real-time transactions conducted through India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI). Around 2,200 government services are now accessible via mobile phones, thanks to initiatives like the “Umang” app, allowing citizens to manage their tasks from home.
In addition, there’s a focus on AI-powered technology to enhance safety and security. Modi’s goal is to ensure that the benefits of digital advancement reach every individual in the community, with Bengaluru serving as a driving force in these efforts.
India’s tech landscape is not just advancing; it’s changing lives. As more people gain access to technology, it’s creating opportunities and bridging gaps. With a robust foundation and a clear vision, the future looks bright for India’s tech industry.
