Nagpur recently hosted the 29th National Session of the Indian Youth Parliament, where Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan emphasized the need for India’s innovation to come from its roots. He asserted that merely borrowing ideas wouldn’t lead to the envisioned “Viksit Bharat by 2047.” Instead, he encouraged thinking in native languages and embracing India’s rich culture.
Radhakrishnan addressed the youth, highlighting that they are the “Amrit Generation,” poised to witness India transform into a developed nation by 2047. He expressed optimism that the Youth Parliament would play a vital role in achieving this national vision.
Notably, Radhakrishnan underscored Nagpur’s significance as the birthplace of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), founded in 1925 by Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar. He pointed out that the RSS, which began as a small initiative, has evolved into a major movement focused on national service, reflecting a spirit of “Rashtra Pratham,” or putting the nation first.
The theme of the session, “Indian Languages & Developed India–2047,” highlighted India’s linguistic diversity as a strength. Radhakrishnan noted that speaking in one’s mother tongue is an act of originality, not just regionalism. He praised recent efforts to make the Constitution available in various Indian languages and stressed that preserving linguistic diversity is crucial for India’s development.
He also recognized the Central Sanskrit University for its role in promoting Sanskrit, pointing out its connection to many Indian languages and its importance in India’s knowledge heritage.
Drawing from his experience as Rajya Sabha Chairman, Radhakrishnan spoke on the value of dialogue in democracy. He encouraged respectful debate and active listening, emphasizing that differing viewpoints should lead to constructive conversations rather than conflict. The Youth Parliament serves as a platform for this kind of respectful engagement, teaching students important lessons about leadership and character.
Earlier, he honored the legacy of RSS founder Hedgewar with a floral tribute at the Dr. Hedgewar Smruti Bhavan.
To further enrich the discussion, a recent survey by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) highlighted that over 70% of students believe learning in their native language strengthens their understanding. This speaks volumes about the importance of linguistic diversity in education and national development.
