The High Commission in Singapore has launched a One Stop Centre (OSC) to support Indian women facing difficulties overseas. This initiative is part of India’s Sakhi One Stop Centre scheme, which aims to provide help to women in distress.
High Commissioner Shilpak Ambule stated that the OSC will offer comprehensive services, including legal aid, medical help, psychological counseling, and emergency support. This means that women dealing with various forms of abuse—physical, emotional, or financial—can seek assistance.
Located within the High Commission, the OSC creates a safe and welcoming environment. Women can reach out anytime via a dedicated 24/7 helpline at +65 8716 5521 or email osc.singapore@mea.gov.in.
This initiative is not just confined to Singapore. Similar centres exist in countries like Bahrain, Kuwait, and the UAE, highlighting a broader effort to ensure the safety and well-being of Indian women abroad.
Experts emphasize the importance of these centres. According to a report by the United Nations, around 1 in 3 women worldwide have experienced physical or sexual violence. Initiatives like the OSC not only provide immediate support but also raise awareness about women’s rights.
The Indian government’s commitment to these services showcases a proactive approach to women’s welfare, both at home and abroad. Empowering women and promoting gender equality is essential, and the OSC is a meaningful step in that direction.
