Empowering India’s Rice Sector: BRIC 2025 Sees Ministry of Cooperation Partner with Indian Rice Exporters Federation

The Ministry of Cooperation is teaming up with the Indian Rice Exporters Federation (IREF) for the Bharat International Rice Conference (BIRC) 2025. This event aims to boost India’s rice sector significantly.

Alongside this conference, there are plans to release three key initiatives: a Coffee Table Book about Indian Rice, and a Vision & Roadmap document that outlines how the rice industry can contribute to Viksit Bharat 2047.

Prem Garg, the national president of IREF, expressed excitement about this partnership. He stated, “It’s an honor to have the support of the Ministry of Cooperation. This is a pivotal moment for the rice sector in India.” The collaboration emphasizes the growing focus on cooperatives and grassroots organizations, which are essential in strengthening the agricultural economy.

Moreover, this partnership shows how cooperatives can help make the rice economy more inclusive and ready for the market. It aligns with the Viksit Bharat 2047 initiative, which aims to double farmers’ incomes and enhance food security through institutional development.

According to a recent government report, India’s rice exports reached 10 million tons in 2022, reflecting the sector’s growth. Additionally, a National Sample Survey indicated that around 85% of farmers are part of cooperatives, underlining their importance in the agricultural landscape.

The conference will be a platform to showcase these advancements and further secure India’s position in the global agricultural market. With a shared vision for the future, this partnership aims to uplift the entire rice community and contribute to a stronger agricultural framework.
