On February 13, 2026, a significant milestone in India’s maritime journey took place in Goa. DG Paramesh Sivamani, the Director General of the Indian Coast Guard, officially opened the MJP India Waterjet Production and Testing Facility. This new site represents an important step toward making India more self-reliant in maritime technology.
Several notable figures attended the inauguration, including IG Sudhir Sahni and executives from MJP AB, a Swedish company. The partnership between India and MJP AB is crucial. Already, over 100 waterjet propulsion systems are in use on Indian Coast Guard vessels, with an additional 42 systems planned for future ships. This facility will strengthen local production and testing capabilities.
The DG praised the collaboration with MJP AB, making India the third country globally, after the USA and South Korea, to host such a facility. This achievement aligns with India’s broader goal of indigenization in defense and technology.
Setting up this facility not only enhances operational efficiency but also helps create jobs, supports small and medium enterprises, and promotes technology development within the country. An interesting fact: the Indian defense sector has seen a 70% increase in local procurement in recent years, reflecting a growing commitment to self-reliance.
Additionally, DG Sivamani visited Chowgule & Company Pvt Ltd in Goa to assess the progress on six Air Cushion Vehicles. These are India’s first vehicles with 50% local content, marking another significant step in bolstering coastal security. The first delivery is expected in May 2026.
Such initiatives reveal a trend where nations are increasingly investing in domestic capabilities. As modernization efforts continue, these advancements will play a critical role in ensuring national security and technological independence.
