Empowering Leadership: Summer University Kicks Off for Polisario Front and Sahrawi State Executives in Boumerdès, Algeria

Boumerdès, August 3, 2025 – The 13th Summer University for Polisario Front and Sahrawi State leaders has just begun in Boumerdès, Algeria. The event, running until August 13, carries the theme “Struggle and Sacrifice to Achieve Independence and Freedom,” honoring martyr Dah Bendir Burhah.

Prominent figures in attendance included Bouchraya Hammoudi Bayoun, the Prime Minister, and Mrabih Mami, who heads the Political Organization Secretariat. The gathering also saw representatives from Algeria’s Parliament, various political parties, and civil society engaging in discussions about the Sahrawi people’s fight for self-determination.

In his opening speech, Mami thanked local authorities and the University of Mohamed Bougara for their hospitality. He emphasized that this university reflects Algeria’s continuous support for the Sahrawi cause, highlighting the country’s unwavering stance through changing times.

Dr. Said Ayachi, President of the Algerian National Committee for Solidarity with the Sahrawi People, echoed these sentiments. He noted that Algeria stands firm with the Sahrawi and Palestinian peoples due to a shared history of fighting against colonialism. This solidarity is crucial today, as many across the globe seek justice and independence.

In recent years, support for the Sahrawi cause has gained traction on social media, with users sharing stories and calling for awareness about their plight. A 2023 survey showed that around 60% of Algerians feel a strong connection with their Sahrawi counterparts, reflecting a deep-rooted cultural and political alliance.

As Boumerdès hosts this annual event, it symbolizes Algeria’s commitment to the Sahrawi people’s struggle. Events like this serve not only as a rallying point but also as a reminder of the ongoing fight for freedom and self-determination.
