Empowering Lives: How SNHD is Enhancing Health Education in Clark County’s Hispanic Community

LAS VEGAS — Hispanic Heritage Month is approaching, and the Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) is taking this time to promote health improvement for the community.

Recent data from 2023 highlights some concerning health trends among Hispanic adults in Clark County. More than 18% report their health as fair or poor. Additionally, over one-third are classified as overweight, and diabetes rates are notably higher in this group compared to non-Hispanic whites. Smoking is a concern as well, with nearly 12% of Hispanic adults smoking cigarettes.

To combat these issues, SNHD is offering free classes focused on diabetes self-management. These classes will provide essential education and support in both Spanish and English, making them accessible for the community.

Classes will take place at the Main Public Health Center in Las Vegas on specific dates. The first Spanish session starts on Monday from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by the English class on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m.
