In Utah County, the Food and Care Coalition is a vital resource for those facing poverty and homelessness. Recently, they celebrated a huge achievement by serving their 3 millionth meal. This milestone highlights their dedication to helping those in need, but their support goes well beyond just meals.

The coalition takes a comprehensive approach to address immediate needs and promote long-term well-being. They offer hygiene products, laundry facilities, medical and mental health care, and educational support. Their onsite hydroponic greenhouse even helps grow fresh foods for the community, providing nutritious options year-round.
Nourishing Communities
In 2024 alone, the coalition served over 105,000 balanced meals, thanks to the kindness of 450 donors, which include local businesses and community members. An incredible 7,000 volunteers helped make this happen, creating a strong sense of community and stability.
Hygiene and Dignity
Hygiene is crucial for self-respect and health. The coalition offers free access to shower and laundry facilities, along with hygiene products. They distribute more than $100,000 worth of essential items each year, such as sleeping bags and warm clothing, which are critical for those in need.
Healthcare Access
Healthcare is a big part of the coalition’s mission. Many people experiencing homelessness have untreated medical, dental, and mental health issues that prevent them from finding stability. The coalition partners with local health organizations to provide comprehensive medical and dental services, along with mental health care.
Education for Empowerment
Through programs with My Story Matters, the coalition gives clients the tools to create positive change in their lives. These educational initiatives focus on building resilience and confidence, essential attributes for making lasting improvements.
Transitional Housing Support
The coalition also offers transitional housing, giving clients a stable place to focus on their growth. They have 26 units for men and 12 for women, providing a supportive environment as individuals work toward permanent housing solutions.
Candlelight Villas: A Major Step Forward
In June 2022, the coalition opened Candlelight Villas, a 72-unit permanent supportive housing complex. Each apartment is fully furnished, promoting safe and independent living. The community design includes shared spaces, encouraging interaction among residents and building a sense of belonging.
A Framework for Success
The Food and Care Coalition’s approach has led to many uplifting success stories. By focusing on basic necessities, health care, and education, they empower individuals to rebuild their lives. Impressively, they manage this with just eight full-time and 20 part-time employees, proving the impact of dedication and community spirit.
Community and Collaboration
The coalition thrives on community support. Local residents, businesses, and organizations contribute financial and volunteer resources, allowing them to expand their services. This shared responsibility directly impacts the lives of those facing hardship.
As we continue to recognize the importance of organizations like the Food and Care Coalition, let’s consider how we can further support their mission. With poverty affecting approximately 11.4% of residents in Utah, the coalition plays a crucial role in addressing urgent needs while fostering self-sufficiency.
