The Forth Valley Sensory Centre (FVSC) is launching an exciting project called SustainAble For All. This initiative aims to help people with sight or hearing loss engage in environmental efforts.
SustainAble For All will create an accessible map showing sustainable projects throughout Forth Valley. The map will detail each initiative, who can participate, and how to get involved.
Jacquie Winning, the chief executive of FVSC, emphasizes the importance of including people with sensory loss in discussions about climate change. “By developing SustainAble For All with our community, we want to ensure that everyone can help protect our planet,” she states.
This project is a collaboration between FVSC and Forth Environment Link, supported by the Scottish Government’s Climate Engagement Fund. It’s designed to be as user-friendly as possible, incorporating feedback from center users and the local community.
The official launch will take place on September 29 at a free event, but registration is necessary. FVSC has been aiding people with sensory loss and their families in Falkirk, Stirling, and Clackmannanshire for over 15 years. Annually, about 20,000 visitors access various services at the center, including IT support, cooking classes, and sign language sessions.
With sustainability becoming ever more critical, this initiative reflects a broader societal trend. Recent surveys show that 72% of people prioritize being environmentally conscious. FVSC’s project is a timely response to this growing awareness.
In addition to fostering environmental engagement, FVSC offers volunteering opportunities, allowing individuals to build confidence and acquire new skills.
