Hyderabad recently saw an inspiring event at Meru International School. On January 9, 2026, the school hosted the second edition of Meru Antaragni, an art exhibition aimed at raising environmental awareness. This student-led showcase turned creativity into a powerful tool to discuss our connection with nature.
Meghana Gorukanti Jupally, the school’s founder, emphasized the importance of teaching responsibility through creativity. She noted, “When children learn to create responsibly, they begin to understand their responsibility towards the world they live in.”
The exhibition displayed a wide array of artwork made from natural, recycled, and upcycled materials. One standout piece was a mixed media installation crafted from dried leaves, pinecones, and twigs. This artwork celebrated nature while encouraging viewers to think about reusing materials. Another featured piece, inspired by Indian folk art, depicted the harmony between cultural heritage and sustainability through vibrant motifs.
The exhibition also addressed pressing environmental issues. For example, “Oceans in Distress,” created to highlight marine pollution, caught the audience’s eye. Another important piece, “Faces of Tomorrow,” used plastic straws to create a portrait, urging people to reflect on plastic waste and our collective duty to the planet. The Warli artwork titled “Circle of Life” illustrated community living and ecological balance, reinforcing that sustainability is a shared effort.
Recent studies show that environmental education, especially for young people, can lead to lifelong eco-friendly habits. According to a 2023 survey by the National Environmental Education Foundation, 78% of students exposed to sustainability initiatives feel more responsible for their environment. This data highlights the significance of programs like Meru Antaragni in shaping the next generation’s relationship with nature.
