Nagpur recently became a hub for climate awareness as nearly 200 young delegates gathered at Vidhan Bhavan for the National Environment Youth Parliament. This event aimed to turn awareness into action regarding environmental issues.
Manali Kshirsagar, the Vice-Chancellor of RTMNU, addressed the attendees. She stressed the importance of fostering leadership and awareness among young people. “This platform will encourage dialogue and initiatives to tackle our environmental challenges,” she remarked.
Devdutt Joshi, a senior leader from Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), echoed her sentiments. He emphasized that environmental efforts should involve the community and youth. He underlined the significance of understanding the “five elements”: water, people, forests, land, and animals. Joshi believes that raising awareness among young people is essential for sustainable development.
The inaugural day featured a mock parliament, where delegates engaged in legislative-style discussions focused on pressing environmental issues. Upcoming sessions will address crucial themes, including ecological intelligence in climate governance and India’s global leadership role at COP30, reflecting the values of Indian sustainability.
The event includes seminars, workshops, and debates designed to foster practical environmental solutions. It was organized by Vikasarth Vidyarthi and the Environment Conservation Activity (PSG). Payal Rai, the national convenor of Vikasarth Vidyarthi, pointed out that the National Environment Youth Parliament 2026 aims to nurture green leadership. She introduced initiatives like “Screen Time to Green Time,” encouraging students to swap digital activities for outdoor experiences.
Events like this highlight the active role of youth in environmental conservation. Research indicates that young people are increasingly concerned about climate change, with over 70% of surveyed youth considering it one of the most pressing issues of our time. As platforms for discussion grow, the hope is that these future leaders will continue to inspire action against climate change.
