Female athletes filled Saint Mary’s Athletic Center for the National Girls and Women in Sports Day Clinic. It was an exciting opportunity for young athletes to explore different sports.

Participants chose four out of nine varsity women’s sports to try out. Coaches and student-athletes led the activities, helping girls discover their athletic interests.
Jackie Bauters, head cross country coach, shared how important these events are. She believes they give girls a chance to experience new sports they might be hesitant to try on their own. “It’s a great way for them to find something they love,” she said.
Senior lacrosse player Valentina Rubio emphasized the benefits of cross-training. “Trying different sports teaches you skills that can help in your main sport. It makes you a better, more well-rounded player,” she explained. This approach can set young athletes up for success in high school and beyond.
Sophomore stunt athlete Erin Monnier highlighted the importance of empowering younger female athletes. “We need to support each other. Women are strong, and we can achieve anything we set our minds to,” she said. Her passion for mentoring is clear as she encourages the next generation.
If you missed the clinic, Saint Mary’s offers a sports exploration camp in June for younger female athletes. It’s another chance for them to discover their potential.
