In Penticton, excitement is brewing! Cannery Brewing just launched a special Mango Milkshake IPA, aimed not only at beer lovers but also at uplifting women in the craft beer scene. This new brew hit the shelves on May 9, and it’s more than just a tasty drink. Proceeds from its sales support Beer Babes Family, a non-profit that champions women working in the beer industry across North America.
Patt Dyck, co-founder and general manager of Cannery, shared that this initiative is influenced by the Pink Boots Society, based in Texas. This group provides grants and scholarships to women aspiring to enter the brewing business.
“We’re excited to offer this special beer,” Dyck said, clearly passionate about the cause. “Beer Babes Family inspires us, as they create an inclusive community for women in brewing.” She describes the Mango Milkshake IPA as bold, with a delightful touch of vanilla. “They’ve really nailed it. It’s delicious!”
The Mango Milkshake IPA is available at liquor stores across British Columbia and Alberta for a limited time. “Patt Dyck has blazed a trail for women in the craft beer world,” said marketing director Kim Lawton. “Our goal is to keep making craft beer an inclusive space that’s warm and welcoming for everyone.”
Cannery Brewing has a long history in the community, having been founded in 2001. Dyck emphasizes the importance of relationships in their business. “This brewery is built on connections,” she noted, highlighting Cannery’s commitment to both their community and the growing role of women in brewing.
According to recent statistics, women make up only about 30% of the workforce in the craft beer industry, showing there’s still a long way to go for gender equality. Events like this one aim to change that by encouraging more women to pursue careers in brewing.
As beer culture evolves, initiatives like the Mango Milkshake IPA remind us of the power of community support and inclusivity. For more insights on women in the brewing industry, check out resources from the Pink Boots Society.
