Empowering Women, Strengthening Society: Sports Minister Mandaviya Inspires at the FIT India Pink Cyclothon

Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, recently emphasized the vital role of women in sports and fitness for national growth. At the FIT INDIA Pink Cyclothon in Kolkata, which celebrated International Women’s Day, he encouraged everyone to embrace cycling as a fun way to stay healthy and contribute to a greener planet.

The event was part of the “Sunday on Cycle” initiative, which is gaining traction across India, showing how fitness can unite communities. Mandaviya spoke about how empowering women leads to stronger families and societies. He stated, “When women thrive, families and society flourish, which directly aids in nation-building.” His call for more opportunities in sports for women and girls highlights the importance of inclusivity.

Notable personalities like Olympians Bombayla Devi Laishram and Smt. Sushmita Singha Roy joined the cyclothon, inspiring many with their achievements. The initiative, launched by Mandaviya in December 2024, has seen over 25 million people participating nationwide. It’s part of the larger Fit India Movement, started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019, aiming to make fitness a daily routine for everyone.

Studies show that engaging in sports can improve mental health, enhance teamwork skills, and build resilience, especially for women. Social media is buzzing with hashtags like #FitIndia and #WomenInSports, showing a growing awareness of the need for female representation in sports.

With continued efforts, the goal is to create a culture where sports are accessible to all, making fitness a community tradition.
