Empowering Women’s Health: How Roche is Driving Change Through Strategic Partnerships and Meaningful Action

XProject, a Roche initiative, aims to enhance women’s health around the world. By building partnerships and funding important health programs, XProject focuses on improving health outcomes for women. We seek to challenge current healthcare practices and spark important discussions to create lasting changes that help not only women but everyone.

In 2024, XProject launched the Changemaker Series, bringing together people dedicated to improving women’s healthcare. These changemakers work hard to overcome obstacles and support fair healthcare for all. Their passion and creativity are changing lives and making a positive impact worldwide.

One inspiring story comes from Mexico, where Diana Calva leads efforts to improve HPV testing. After her mother’s diagnosis of late-stage cancer, Diana collaborated with Roche to provide 600,000 free HPV tests to women in Mexico. This initiative has led to the diagnosis of over 2,000 cases of cervical cancer, modernizing diagnostic practices in the country. Diana highlights the importance of multi-sector partnerships and personalized medicine in strengthening women’s health.

In Argentina, David Strasorier, a professor at the University of Córdoba, is transforming how women receive care. He established comprehensive counseling units focused on women’s health. By 2023, 14 units were up and running, certifying 58 counselors and helping over 7,170 women with topics like sexual health and gender violence. David believes in the power of collaboration and evolving education to improve community health.

In Peru, oncologist Luis Sánchez is making a difference in cancer care with the Encaminadas project. This program combines cancer awareness, screening, and treatment in underserved areas. Luis is working to break down cultural barriers that prevent women from accessing care. Thanks to Encaminadas, consultation rates have doubled, and more patients now have access to advanced treatments, significantly improving cancer care services.

Tebogo Maimela in South Africa is another changemaker, running the Unjani Clinic Network. Her nurse-operated clinics provide affordable primary care and extended hours, serving women who struggle to access health services. With support from Roche, these clinics focus on early diagnosis and preventive care, especially for conditions like breast cancer, ensuring timely treatment for women in need.

Finally, in the U.S., Ashley Gregory is raising awareness about haemophilia in women through the FAIR Time for Women Coalition. After being diagnosed herself, she and her coalition, with Roche’s backing, are working to improve the diagnosis and treatment of women with bleeding disorders. They are creating educational resources and advocating for federal funding and more inclusive research to ensure women get the care they deserve.
