Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Roger Marshall, M.D. and Marsha Blackburn have introduced two important resolutions aimed at supporting women and girls in sports. The first, the Resolution Calling on the NCAA to Protect Women in Sports, calls for the NCAA to change its policy on transgender athletes. This resolution seeks to require that only biologically female athletes can compete in women’s sports across all divisions.
The second resolution, titled ‘American Girls in Sports Day’, aims to recognize October 10 as a day to honor the achievements of female athletes. This day would serve to celebrate contributions made by women in sports and promote awareness of their importance.
Senator Marshall, who is both an OBGYN and a father, is passionate about protecting Title IX, which ensures equal opportunities in sports for girls and women. He has consistently spoken out against policies he believes undermine this law. In 2024, he urged the NCAA President to revise athlete eligibility rules to benefit only biologically female students in women’s sports. Alongside Senator Blackburn, he also wrote to the NCAA, reinforcing their call for stricter adherence to biological-based policies.
In addition to these resolutions, Senator Marshall introduced the Defining Male and Female Act. This legislation aims to establish clear legal definitions of male and female based on biology, protecting the rights of girls and women to participate in sports separated by sex. He also partnered with Senator Tuberville on the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, which aims to uphold Title IX protections for female athletes.
