The City of Athens has announced an investment of €96,000 to support climate action initiatives led by young people aged 15-24. This funding is part of the second round of the Youth Climate Action Fund, which is backed by Bloomberg Philanthropies. Starting February 28, 2025, eligible groups can apply for grants of up to €4,500 through the program’s website.

This fund aims to support creative, community-focused projects that align with Athens’ 2024 Climate Action Plan. The city’s goal is to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030. To qualify, projects must enhance sustainability, promote climate action, and engage local youth. Groups of three or more individuals, as well as youth organizations, are encouraged to apply.

Mayor Haris Doukas stated, “Athens is changing with the participation of its youth. This initiative provides them with the tools to implement their ideas, promote green spaces, and develop solutions to tackle the climate crisis.”

Nikos Chrysogelos, the Deputy Mayor for Climate Governance and Social Economy, emphasized the program’s success in its first round and the city’s commitment to support more initiatives.

On February 27, a showcase of projects from the first round will take place at the Technopolis cultural complex in Gazi, along with an overview of the second round.
