Microsoft is updating Windows 11 with new Insider Preview builds to make it more secure and efficient, especially for people using batch files or CMD scripts.
One of the key changes is the new security feature called LockBatchFilesInUse. This allows IT administrators to prevent batch files from being altered while they’re running. They can easily add this feature in the system registry or through the application manifest.
According to the Windows Insider team, this update enhances both performance and security. With this feature, the system only needs to check code signatures one time during execution, instead of each time a new command runs. This change is particularly helpful in business settings where scripted workflows are common.
Shared Audio Updates
In addition to security improvements, Microsoft is enhancing the Shared Audio feature. This allows users to share sound between two devices, like headphones or speakers. The update introduces separate volume controls for each user. Now, every listener can adjust their own sound without affecting others. A new taskbar indicator will also make it easier to manage sharing sessions.
More devices are now compatible with this feature too, including the Samsung Galaxy Buds 4 and Sony WF-1000XM6.
These updates are currently available to Windows Insiders who have the latest preview builds installed.
