God of War is celebrating its 20th anniversary, but not everyone is happy with the way it’s being recognized. Developer Santa Monica Studio announced that there wouldn’t be any remasters or updates for the original games, which disappointed many fans.
Alongside a new update for God of War Ragnarok, players can claim a free PlayStation avatar that honors both the Greek and Norse mythologies seen in the series. To get this avatar, players need to enter a specific code based on their region:
- America: F27X-L946-8PTH
- Europe: HMCJ-N3JM-4TT2
- Japan: 6F3K-RR8X-2KEM
- Korea: HRLN-L4AG-88GD
- Asia: 8RC3-DEFT-NJPC
Despite this small gift, many fans took to social media to express their disappointment. One user tweeted, “After all this wait for the 20th anniversary, they give us pure crap. They should have remastered the Greek saga for PS5.” Another commented, “This was disappointing as hell for the 20th anniversary; I just can’t sugarcoat it.”
Reports earlier hinted at the possibility of re-releasing the original Greek games on PS5 as part of Sony’s PS2 emulation initiative. However, the company confirmed it would not release any titles in honor of the anniversary, which added to fans’ frustrations.
While it may seem bleak now, there is hope for the future. Many believe that the Greek games will eventually be ported to PS5. As experts in the gaming industry emphasize, remasters and ports are often driven by fan demand and market trends. According to a recent report from Statista, remastered games constitute a significant portion of the gaming market—approximately 30% in 2023. This reflects the ongoing interest in classic games, suggesting that the fans have the power to influence decisions.
In the meantime, God of War continues to be a beloved franchise, representing a strong blend of storytelling and gameplay. As the gaming community reflects on its legacy, it’s clear the passion for the series remains strong. All good things come to those who wait, and perhaps more offerings will come to delight loyal fans in the near future.
