Statistics from the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) highlight the scale of the problem. Among young adults aged 18 to 25, one in three experiences some form of mental illness. One in ten faces serious mental health issues, and nearly 4 million have had serious thoughts of suicide. Esparza notes that this anxiety is now becoming more visible as these individuals navigate adulthood.

The NAMI study from 2020 showed an increase in alcohol and drug use during the pandemic. Additionally, many are turning to unhealthy coping mechanisms like oversleeping. Esparza stresses the importance of early intervention in these situations.
