Essential NASA OCHCO Memo: Your Complete Guide to Post-Shutdown Furlough Procedures

Note from Keith: Below is a memo shared with NASA employees about returning to work after a recent shutdown.

**From:** Office of the Chief Human Capital Officer (OCHCO)
**Date:** Thursday, November 13, 2025
**Subject:** Guidance for Employees Post-Shutdown

Welcome back, NASA team! We want to thank everyone who continued essential operations during the shutdown. Your hard work kept our missions moving forward.

As we fully reopen, some locations may still be getting back to normal, and some employees might face challenges returning to the office. Please follow any local instructions from your supervisors to ease this transition.

Here are some important updates:

  • Retroactive pay from the last three pay periods will be issued on November 17 and 21.
    • On November 17, you will receive about 50% of your retroactive gross pay.
    • The remaining amount, along with your regular pay for November 2-15, will be processed on November 21.
  • No need to fill out timecards for the period from October 1 to November 1.
  • Make sure to complete your timesheet for the pay period from November 2-15 by 1 p.m. ET on November 14. Payroll will follow the usual schedule for payments.
    • From November 13-15, please record all hours worked (e.g., REG, REG/TWORK, leave).
    • For non-excepted employees: Your timecards for November 2-12 are already completed.
    • For excepted employees: Confirm that your hours from November 2-12 are labeled correctly for compensated work.
  • You won’t be able to change timecards for previous periods right now. Check the OneNASA Post-Shutdown page for updates on when corrections will be possible.

**Helpful Resources:**

Your IT equipment may need adjustments after the shutdown. Visit the Helpful IT Tips for guidance on reconnecting and check the IT Services and Support for Reopening for more assistance. Don’t hesitate to visit your center’s SpaceBar for hands-on help.

If you need mental health support, the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provides access to professionals during regular business hours.

Regularly check the OneNASA Post-Shutdown page for updates and new resources. Should you have questions or need more information, reach out to your local human resources office.

Thank you for your commitment and patience during this period. We deeply appreciate your dedication to NASA.

Sincerely,

Kelly Elliott
Chief Human Capital Officer
