Michelle Reyna’s journey in accounting began in high school and has led her to an exciting Summer 2025 Tax Internship at PwC. She credits her teacher, Mrs. Sanders, for igniting her passion for the subject.
When she discovered the PwC internship on LinkedIn, she knew it would be tough to get in. Still, she applied. Just two weeks later, she had two interviews—a partner and a manager. “I focused on showing my problem-solving skills and curiosity about tax work,” Reyna remembers. Soon after, she received the offer.
Now, at PwC, Reyna helps big clients prepare and analyze data using advanced software. She loves applying what she learned in class to real-world situations. “Every challenge feels like it connects directly to my intermediate accounting and financial reporting classes,” she notes.
A big part of her success comes from the support she found at East Texas A&M University. The revival of Beta Alpha Psi, the accounting honors society, helped her connect with peers facing similar challenges. “Having classmates with similar goals boosted my confidence,” she says. Her mentor, Dr. Robert Rankin, was also vital. He offered guidance on resumes, interviews, and even connected her with recruiters.
Reyna encourages fellow students to apply for internships, even if they lack experience. Companies like PwC look for potential in promising candidates. She suggests thinking of the internship as a chance to evaluate both the company and yourself. Joining campus clubs, seeking out mentors, and attending career fairs can help build the connections and skills needed to transform applications into job offers.
Her story highlights the importance of preparation, community support, and mentorship in turning ambitions into reality. As Reyna embarks on her journey with PwC, she hopes her experience inspires other students at ETAMU to take that leap, even in a competitive landscape.
