On Thursday, racing fans will witness two qualifying races, each 60 laps long, to determine the starting lineup for the 67th Daytona 500. The excitement kicks off with Chase Briscoe, who grabbed the pole position, leading a group of 23 cars for the first race. In the second race, Austin Cindric will start second, with 22 cars vying for their chance to qualify.
The front row spots for the Daytona 500 were set during Wednesday’s qualifying session, with Briscoe and Cindric securing their positions. The rest of the starting grid will be filled based on the outcomes of Thursday’s races, commonly known as the Duel.
The first race is set to start at 7 p.m. ET, followed by the second race around 8:15 p.m.
Out of the 40 entries in the Daytona 500, 36 spots are reserved for chartered teams. The remaining four will go to the top open finishers from the qualifiers. Notably, Jimmie Johnson and Martin Truex Jr. have already secured their places based on their qualifying speeds.
In the first race, the open car drivers include Truex, Justin Allgaier, Helio Castroneves, Chandler Smith, and JJ Yeley. The second race features Johnson, Corey LaJoie, Anthony Alfredo, and BJ McLeod driving open cars.
