Everything You Need to Know About India’s Vande Bharat Sleeper Trials Starting December 12

India is set to launch its first-ever sleeper version of the Vande Bharat Express. The Delhi–Patna route will soon offer passengers a new overnight travel option, with regular services expected to start by the end of December.

The Indian Railways is wrapping up preparations for this launch. The first sleeper train has been built at Bharat Earth Movers Limited in Bengaluru and will be handed over to Northern Railway on December 12. Following this, trial runs on the route will begin, paving the way for commercial operations later in the month. The Danapur division has confirmed that everything is on track for a smooth start.

This sleeper Vande Bharat train will feature 16 coaches, accommodating 827 passengers. It will have 11 Third AC coaches with 611 berths, four Second AC coaches with 188 berths, and one First AC coach with 24 berths. Interestingly, the design allows for future expansion to 24 coaches if needed.

The train will operate six days a week, similar to the New Delhi–Rajendra Nagar Tejas Rajdhani Express. It will leave Patna in the evening and arrive in Delhi the next morning, with a similar schedule for the return trip.

Onboard, passengers can expect modern comforts. The train will have automatic doors, bio-toilets, CCTV cameras for safety, and personal reading lights. The interiors are designed for comfort, making long journeys more enjoyable.

Speed is a highlight too. The train can reach a maximum speed of 160 km/h and features a crash-resistant frame along with advanced safety systems, including the Kavach anti-collision technology.

The introduction of the Delhi–Patna Vande Bharat Sleeper Train is a significant move for railway travel in India, aimed at improving overnight journeys while providing modern amenities. As travel patterns evolve, the demand for such services is likely to grow. A recent survey indicated that nearly 70% of travelers prefer night trains for comfort and convenience. This new service is expected to cater to that demand while ensuring safety and speed.

Overall, the sleeper version of the Vande Bharat Express not only enhances travel options between two major cities but also reflects a broader trend toward improving public transport in India.
