In November, Warrington will host a series of community events aimed at fighting climate change. Organized by the local Climate Emergency Commission, these gatherings are about inspiring action with simple, everyday solutions.
Councillor Tony Higgins emphasizes the importance of these events: “The Climate Emergency Forum is a great chance for us to come together and share ideas on how to tackle the climate crisis. Everyone is welcome to join and contribute.”
The events kick off with two Repair Cafés. People can bring in items like bikes, electronics, and clothing to be repaired for free. The first event is on Saturday, November 8, at Lymm Village Hall, followed by another on November 15 at Birchwood Youth and Community Centre. There will also be a pop-up café offering homemade cakes, and experts from Energy Projects Plus will provide advice on energy efficiency.
From November 7, an exhibition on biodiversity and habitat loss will be displayed at the Warrington Museum, running until February 2026. Another intriguing event, Climate Express, returns on November 13 from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at the University Centre Warrington. This will feature short talks showcasing local efforts in climate adaptation and community energy initiatives.
On November 16, join the first Climate Café at Warrington Museum from 11 AM to 12:30 PM. This is a laid-back session to discuss environmental issues over free refreshments. Following this, the “Go Electric” webinar on November 19, led by the Energy Saving Trust, will cover the advantages of electric vehicles, charging options, and costs. Participants can ask questions in a live Q&A.
The “People, Planet, Pint” gathering on November 20 at The White Hart invites people to chat informally about sustainability, fostering connections around this important topic. Finally, “Making Homes Warmer, Forever” on November 21 at Birchwood Youth and Community Centre will give attendees practical tips to save energy and money in their homes, including guidance on grants and support available.
These events are not just about learning; they are about building a community around climate action. Recent studies show that local initiatives can significantly impact public awareness and behavior towards sustainability. Engaging in such events helps foster a sense of responsibility and shared purpose among community members.
