Everything You Need to Know: Mumbai-Delhi Train Services with Rajdhani Leading the Way and Vande Bharat Arriving Soon!

The Indian Railways plays a vital role in connecting cities across the country. One of the key routes is between New Delhi and Mumbai, India’s capital and financial hub. This route is primarily served by premium trains like the Rajdhani Express.

Let’s take a closer look at the trains running on this important route:

Rajdhani Express

Four Rajdhani trains currently operate between New Delhi and Mumbai:

  • New Delhi – Mumbai Central Rajdhani Express (Train Number – 12952/12951)
The train departs from New Delhi at 4:55 PM, arriving in Mumbai at 8:35 AM the next day. It covers around 1,500 kilometers in about 15 hours and 40 minutes, with stops at major stations like Kota and Surat.
  • August Kranti Rajdhani Express (Train Number – 12954/12953)
This train leaves Hazrat Nizamuddin at 5:15 PM and reaches Mumbai Central by 8:05 AM the following morning. The journey takes approximately 14 hours and 50 minutes, covering around 1,377 kilometers.
  • Hazrat Nizamuddin – Thiruvananthapuram Rajdhani Express (Train Number – 12432/12431)

Future of Train Travel: Vande Bharat

Currently, there is no direct Vande Bharat train service between New Delhi and Mumbai. However, plans are in place to launch one that will cover the distance of approximately 1,384 kilometers in about 12 hours. This will greatly enhance travel options between these major cities.

Meanwhile, some Vande Bharat services connect Mumbai to nearby cities:

  • Mumbai CSMT – Sainagar Shirdi Vande Bharat (Train Number – 22224/22223)
  • Mumbai Central – Gandhinagar Capital Vande Bharat (Train Number – 20901/20902)

Shatabdi Express

Just like the Vande Bharat, Shatabdi Express trains do not operate on the Mumbai-New Delhi route due to the long distance. Instead, they connect New Delhi to other cities like Chandigarh and Bhopal.

In summary, the New Delhi to Mumbai rail network is critical for millions of passengers. The introduction of new services like the proposed Vande Bharat train will enhance connectivity and reduce travel time, making train travel a more convenient choice for many.
