On April 19, 2025, this dream becomes a reality as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the final section of the Katra-Sangaldan stretch of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL), a 272-kilometer project. Although final ticket prices have yet to be confirmed, estimates suggest fares will range from Rs 1,500-1,600 for the AC Chair Car to Rs 2,200-2,500 for the Executive Chair Car. Passengers will be able to book tickets through the IRCTC website or app, ensuring that securing a spot on this landmark journey is straightforward.

Travel Times

The Katra to Srinagar Vande Bharat train is set to leave Katra at 8:10 AM, arriving in Srinagar at 11:20 AM. In the opposite direction, it will depart Srinagar at 12:45 PM and reach Katra by 3:55 PM. This significantly reduces the travel time, making it easier for visitors to explore the region.

An Engineering Marvel

The Chenab Railway Bridge, part of this project, measures 1,315 meters across the Chenab River. Not only does it withstand winds of up to 266 km/h, but it is also taller than the Eiffel Tower. Engineers used over 28,000 metric tons of steel in its construction, employing innovative methods like a cable crane system to transport materials across difficult terrain.
