A former director of a Brooklyn day care faces serious charges. Murielle Misczak, 43, is accused of stealing nearly $2.75 million in tuition payments from Kinderhaus Brooklyn, a German-language immersion day care. Instead of using the funds for the children, she allegedly spent the money on luxury items, travel, and even professional wrestling tickets.
Misczak, originally from Switzerland, worked at the day care since 2013 and became director in 2020. Her salary was $40,000 a year, but authorities claim she made over 450 fraudulent transactions during her tenure, including more than $350,000 on wrestling tickets alone.
Tuition at Kinderhaus can reach up to $48,000 per year, a significant burden for many parents. Yet they remained tight-lipped after the announcement of her arrest, aware of the serious impact on the community.
In court, a judge ordered Misczak to wear a GPS monitor and stay at home under curfew. If found guilty, she could face up to 20 years in prison.
This case raises broader concerns about trust in institutions like day care centers, especially during a time when parents need reassurance about their children’s safety and well-being. A recent survey from the National Association of Child Care Resource & Referral Agencies reports that trust and communication are crucial for parents when selecting child care, further highlighting the gravity of Misczak’s alleged crimes.
