A man is facing serious allegations for an attempted attack near the Northgate light rail station. Surveillance footage shows him trying to push another person onto the tracks. Fortunately, the victim regained his balance just in time to avoid a tragic accident.
Police were able to identify the suspect, Elisio Melendez, by analyzing security camera footage and tracking tips that led them to a nearby mental health facility. Staff there recognized him, and clothing matching what he wore during the incident was found in his room.
During his court appearance, the judge ordered a mental health evaluation for Melendez due to his documented history of mental illness, including schizophrenia. His defense team noted he has previously been deemed unfit for trial.
