Exciting Addition: Gonzaga Women’s Soccer Welcomes New Mexico State Transfer Shila Rasoul!

Shila Rasoul Joins Gonzaga Women’s Soccer Team for 2025 Season

Exciting news for Gonzaga University’s women’s soccer team! Shila Rasoul, a talented forward from Richmond, British Columbia, has signed a financial aid agreement to join the team for the 2025 season. Previously playing at New Mexico State, Shila brings a strong passion for the game and impressive skills to Gonzaga.

Head Coach Katie Benz has high hopes for her. “Shila comes to us with great experience and a get-it-done mentality. Her energy is infectious, and we’re thrilled to add her to our powerful attack,” Benz said.

During her two years at New Mexico State, Shila played 39 games and started 11 of them in her most recent season. She helped guide the Aggies to 21 wins and contributed to their unbeaten league record in 2023. The team reached the Conference USA semifinals both years she was there.

Shila scored two goals each season and added three assists during her final year. Out of her 49 career shots, 22 were on target. Recognized for her performance, she made the Conference USA All-Freshman Team in 2023.

Her accomplishments don’t stop there. A standout athlete in high school, Shila was a three-time top goal scorer in the BC Soccer Premier League. At A.R. MacNeill Secondary School, she excelled not only in soccer but also in basketball, earning first-team All-Star honors twice, and showcased her skills in volleyball and track.

Insights and Trends

Athletes like Shila are increasingly pursuing opportunities in college sports, which enriches programs across the country. According to the NCAA, about 1 in 10 high school soccer players go on to play at the collegiate level. This trend highlights the growing competitiveness and exposure of women’s soccer.

Shila’s journey reflects a larger trend, where multi-sport athletes gain an edge in overall athletic performance. Experts like Dr. John Murray, a sports psychologist, suggest that diverse sports experiences can enhance an athlete’s adaptability and skills on the field. As Shila transitions to Gonzaga, her varied background may benefit the team.

Gonzaga’s women’s soccer team looks ahead with excitement, and Shila’s addition could be a game-changer. Her past achievements and dedication make her a key player to watch as she could further elevate the team’s success in upcoming seasons.
