Exciting Bargaining Update: What Skagit Regional Health & UFCW 3000 Mean for You

Bargaining Team Updates

On March 13, 2026, our bargaining team met with the hospital to discuss key topics for our contract campaign. These discussions, called “sidebars,” involve a few team members talking off the record. Let’s break down what we covered:

  1. Clinic Maintenance: We proposed creating a new classification to include in the wage scale.
  2. Donning and Doffing (D&D) Flexibility: We seek more guidance on D&D and the grace period to ease current issues.
  3. Interpreters: We’re committed to retaining all bargaining-unit positions but looking for greater flexibility on the languages required for interpretation.
  4. Wage Credit for Current Workers: We noticed some coworkers aren’t placed correctly on the wage scale. We want to set up a system for them to apply for the credit they deserve.
  5. Reducing Variables: We’ve been clear with the hospital that the current system is unsustainable. We want to work together on solutions.
  6. Social Worker of the Day: We filed a demand regarding this practice, and the hospital is currently reviewing the situation.
  7. Hospice Aid and Spiritual Counselors: We discussed integrating these roles into the Hospice Social Worker MOU.
  8. Rest and Meal Periods: It’s crucial we align our systems with current labor laws, particularly on waivers for eight-hour shifts.

In addition to these topics, we submitted our last non-economic proposals to the employer. We expect a response on March 26, 2026.

Right now, the only thing holding up contract ratification is the employer’s response. We’re eager to move forward, even if it means working late.

Staying United

It’s essential for everyone to stay informed and show solidarity in the workplace. One way to get involved is by signing the Community and Worker petition for better wages and stable scheduling. We plan to deliver this petition to the Board of Commissioners by the end of the month.

Looking ahead, our next bargaining session is on March 26, where we’ll also have a mediator joining in April.
