Exciting Beginnings: Quincy University Welcomes First-Year Students to Campus Today – Muddy River News

QUINCY — Today marks an exciting day at Quincy University as first-year students arrive for Move-In Day and Orientation.

During orientation, students will get to know the QU House System. They’ll learn about important topics like service learning, health resources, and tips for classroom success.

Team-building activities are planned to help students bond and understand Franciscan values. A highlight will be the Playfair event, known for its fun, high-energy interaction among new students.

This year, returning students will notice campus upgrades. The Health and Fitness Center has a revamped three-court area, and there are new look classrooms and refreshed residence halls.

Returning students can check in starting August 23, with classes kicking off at 8 a.m. on August 25. Updated enrollment numbers will be available after the add/drop period, around September 8.

Here’s a brief schedule for Move-In Day and Orientation:

Thursday, August 21

  • 8:30 am – 1 pm: Check-In and Move-In at Francis Hall
  • 3 pm: Inaugural Ceremony at St. Francis Solanus Church
  • 4:15 pm: Class photo on Friars’ Field
  • 7 pm: Playfair on Friars’ Field

Thursday through Saturday, August 21-23

  • Orientation Sessions at various locations
  • Evening activities

As universities face increasing competition, events like these are more important than ever. According to a 2023 survey by the American Council on Education, 70% of new students feel that orientation programs significantly ease their transition to college life. Engaging activities foster connections, which are crucial for success both academically and socially.

Social media reactions are also interesting. New students are sharing their Move-In Day excitement on platforms like TikTok and Instagram, often using hashtags like #QUOrientation. This trend helps create a sense of community even before classes start.

In summary, Quincy University’s orientation is about more than just logistics. It’s a chance for new students to start building a network that will support them throughout their college journey.
