Exciting Box Office Projections: ‘Zootopia 2’ Expected to Top M While ‘Wicked: For Good’ Aims for M – A Record-Breaking Tuesday!

After a slow fall season at the box office, things are looking up for movie theaters this holiday. Disney’s Zootopia 2 and Universal’s Wicked: For Good are bringing in viewers.

Zootopia 2 kicked off previews with an impressive $10.2 million. This marks the second-highest preview for a Disney Animation film, right after Moana 2. It also ranks as the second-best Tuesday preview for a Thanksgiving release. In the world of animated films, Zootopia 2 is now eighth for top previews ever.

Here’s a quick list of some top animated previews:

  1. Incredibles 2: $18.5M
  2. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse: $17.4M
  3. Moana 2: $13.8M
  4. Inside Out 2: $13M
  5. Toy Story 4: $12M
  6. Demon Slayer – Infinity Castle: $11.4M
  7. Minions: The Rise of Gru: $10.8M

Looking ahead, projections suggest Zootopia 2 could earn around $125 million in its first five days. If it reaches that goal, it will become the second-best Thanksgiving opener, right after Moana 2. Internationally, it might surpass $270 million. Currently, critics are rating it 93% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, a slight dip from the original’s 98%.

On the other hand, Wicked: For Good had a solid preview at $15.75 million. This makes it the second-best Tuesday of 2025 so far, right behind Superman. For comparisons, it ranks fourth for Tuesdays in November, trailing behind films like Frozen 2 and the original Wicked. So far, it stands at $177.5 million, outperforming the first Wicked movie by 22%.

Last year’s Moana 2, Wicked, and Gladiator II helped set a record for Thanksgiving weekend, raking in $424.9 million. However, this year is missing a big action film like Gladiator II, which made $6.6 million on the same Tuesday last year. The only major new release, Running Man, is struggling, earning just $980,000 for a total of $28.7 million. Overall, the box office is down 25% compared to last year’s figures.

This Thanksgiving season reflects changing audience interests. Animated and musical films seem to be winning over more viewers, while action films might need to step up their game. As more families search for heartwarming stories in theaters, we’ll see if other genres can catch up.
