ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Broncos finished training camp strong.
During practice with the Cardinals, quarterback Bo Nix had one of his best days yet, showcasing his skills right from the start. He quickly connected with wide receiver Pat Bryant for a 20-yard completion and didn’t slow down.
Nix distributed the ball effectively, hitting a variety of targets. Some standout moments included:
- A deep throw to second-year receiver Devaughn Vele, who sprinted for at least a 50-yard gain.
- Precise sideline passes to Troy Franklin and Trent Sherfield Sr., both for over 20 yards.
- Multiple completions to Marvin Mims Jr., highlighting Nix’s ability to navigate the pocket.
- A red-zone touchdown pass to Courtland Sutton, who made a clever move to shake off his defender.
- Despite a penalty, Nix managed a solid throw to Evan Engram at the goal line for another score.
Cardinals linebacker Mack Wilson Sr. noted the improvement in Nix: “You can see he’s made the Year 2 leap. Last year he was learning; now he’s confident and making plays.”
In late-game situations, Nix excelled again. With just over a minute left and no timeouts, he led the Broncos downfield, connecting with Sutton and others for quick completions.
Engram praised the team’s work ethic, saying, “We have talent everywhere. Everyone’s putting in the effort to improve. It’s exciting to be part of this.”
Meanwhile, the Cardinals showed early promise, but the Broncos tightened up during critical moments. Zach Allen, a defensive lineman, emphasized that reviewing film will help the team refine their performance.
Facing dynamic quarterback Kyler Murray was challenging. Allen remarked, “Kyler’s an athlete. When we review the tape, we’ll see how effective we were at pressuring him.”
Although it’s tough to assess the running game in practice, it appeared the Broncos had several successful runs, notably RJ Harvey’s strong carry in the red zone. Coach Sean Payton noted that the team is making progress, saying, “It’s hard to appreciate the running game in drills that don’t allow full tackles, but we’re getting better.”
Looking ahead, Payton mentioned that most starters might not play in the upcoming game against the Cardinals, saving them for more competitive matchups, like the one against the Saints on August 23. He also provided updates on injuries, keeping fans informed on player conditions.
