Director Aoife McArdle, known for her work on Severance, is preparing to bring Foxfinder, a psychological thriller, to life. The film stars Tessa Thompson, a BAFTA and Emmy nominee, Owen Cooper, a Golden Globe and Emmy winner, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, a two-time Emmy winner.
Foxfinder digs into the lives of Jude and Sam, a couple grappling with grief and routine. Their world turns upside down when a government agent, known as a “foxfinder,” arrives at their struggling farm. His mission? To root out the metaphorical “enemy”—the fox. As paranoia grows and bizarre rules take hold, trust erodes, leading to a gripping tale where relationships unravel.
Production kicks off in the summer of 2026 in Bavaria, Germany. The screenplay is a collaboration between McArdle and the play’s original author, Dawn King.
The project is backed by Rabbit Track Pictures and Elation Pictures, supported by Film4 and the BFI. Other financial supporters include Logical Pictures Group and Germany’s Federal Film Fund.
Producers Kamilla Hodøl and Emilie Jouffroy express excitement about working with McArdle, who they describe as a visionary storyteller. They believe her bold approach will draw viewers deeply into the film’s world.
The themes of Foxfinder, centering on tyranny and scapegoating, seem increasingly relevant today. As Kitty Kaletsky notes, the film feels more pertinent with each passing week—echoing societal concerns that resonate worldwide.
Recently, statistics showed a rise in public interest around themes of trust and paranoia in media. According to a survey by the Pew Research Center, over 60% of viewers are drawn to stories that explore these complex human emotions. This aligns perfectly with what Foxfinder aims to convey.
Farhana Bhula, Director of Film4, praises McArdle’s ability to craft a compelling narrative that speaks to current societal issues. The film promises to be not just entertaining but a reflection of our times.
In a digital age where social media buzzes with discussions about films and their meanings, Foxfinder has the potential to spark conversations that extend far beyond the screen.
Stay tuned for this thought-provoking thriller that aims to challenge perceptions and provoke deep reflection.
