Exciting Changes Ahead: Memorial Hospital Biloxi Transitions from Merit Health Biloxi

BILOXI, Miss. – Exciting changes are happening at the hospital that used to be called Merit Health Biloxi. Saturday marked its first day under the new management of Memorial Health System.

With the ownership change, new signs were put up, but that’s just the beginning. Patients can look forward to enhanced services.

Angela Benda, the Quality and Performance Improvement Director, shared that there will be more specialties, additional beds, and an increase in emergency room visits. “This means growth for the facility,” she stated.

Hospital Administrator Kristian Spear highlighted the benefits for both staff and patients. He assured, “The transition will improve access to care for the Biloxi community. Patients will receive the same high-level care as they do in Gulfport, with access to all our specialties as we unify our team.”

This acquisition brings in not just the hospital but also the medical office building, clinics, and two imaging centers previously under Merit Health Biloxi.

Benda expressed optimism about the future, saying, “For such a small facility with limited resources, we see a chance for growth and improvement, thanks to the support from Memorial.”

Now, Memorial Health System operates hospitals in Gulfport, Biloxi, and Stone County, setting the stage for even more healthcare collaboration.

Both Memorial and the former Merit Health Biloxi aim to strengthen healthcare along the Gulf Coast. They plan to partner in various specialties, including oncology, neurology, radiology, and cardiology, to provide better care to the community.
