The emergency department at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center (PTMC) is getting a shake-up as The Pitt prepares for its third season.
Supriya Ganesh, known for her role as Dr. Samira Mohan, is leaving the show. Ayesha Harris, who has played Dr. Parker Ellis on the night shift, is stepping up to a main role.
Ganesh’s departure fits the show’s theme. PTMC is a teaching hospital, where staff changes happen frequently. Her character has been reflecting on her medical career, especially after plans to return to New Jersey didn’t pan out. This isn’t the first change; Tracy Ifeachor’s character, Dr. Heather Collins, also exited after season one.
Interestingly, teaching hospitals often experience high turnover rates. A study by the Association of American Medical Colleges found that nearly one-third of residents change specialties during their training. This reflects real-life medical environments and adds depth to the storyline of The Pitt.
Ganesh considered medical school before landing her role on the show. She has also appeared on Grown-ish and Chicago Med.
Meanwhile, Ayesha Harris has built her own profile. She was featured in Daisy Jones & The Six and Abbott Elementary. It’s exciting to see her transition to a leading role in The Pitt.
As the reigning Emmy winner for best drama series, The Pitt airs its season finale on April 16. Fans are eager to see how the show will evolve with these changes.
