New Film "Slick" Begins Production in Chattanooga

Chattanooga, Tenn., June 10, 2025 – Exciting news for movie lovers! Hope Studios and Southern Adventist University’s School of Visual Art and Design (SVAD) have started filming "Slick," a heartfelt drama created by SVAD alum Stanley Pomianowski.

The movie features a talented cast, including Brett Varvel, known for his roles in "American Underdog" and "Disciples in the Moonlight." He’ll be joined by Jim Chandler from "Stranger Things," and other actors like Stephanie Peterson and Joshwa Copeland. Filming will take place in the beautiful Chattanooga area throughout June.

"Slick" tells the story of a paroled convict who finds oil while doing community service at a church. Initially, he tries to deceive them out of his fortune but finds himself changed by their unexpected kindness.

Production is led by a team of four: Nicholas Livanos, Ashton Weiss, Michael Moyer, and Ziarah Carrillo. Livanos expressed enthusiasm about combining storytelling with education. He believes personal stories connect people deeply.

Kevin Christenson, head of Hope Studios, added that the film’s message feels especially relevant today. With many grappling with issues like financial stress and mental health, a story about grace over greed is timely.
