Exciting Development: India’s First Vande Bharat Sleeper Coach Maintenance Hub Set to Open in Jodhpur by June 2026!

India is setting a new standard in railway maintenance with its first Vande Bharat sleeper coach maintenance facility. Located at Bhagat Ki Kothi railway station in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, this complex is expected to cost ₹360 crore and will be developed in two phases.

In the first phase, which amounts to ₹167 crore, a 600-meter maintenance track will be built. This track will allow servicing of 24 sleeper coaches. It’s anticipated to be ready by June 2026. The second phase, worth ₹195 crore, will add a 178-meter extension, a workshop, and a training simulator. Completion of this phase is projected for June 2027.

Major Amit Swamy, a Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer with North Western Railway, highlighted the facility’s advanced features. It will have a wheel rack system and a modern testing laboratory, equipped with simulators for staff training. The depot will accommodate up to three trains at once, ensuring quick and effective maintenance. Tools like drop pits and specialized machinery will enhance service quality.

This depot will focus on the sleeper version of the Vande Bharat trains. In partnership with Railway Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) and Kinet Railway Solution, a joint venture between India and Russia, it aims to cater to the growing demand for efficient train services. Four additional facilities will be established in Delhi, Bengaluru, and Mumbai to support the initiative.

Once operational, the Jodhpur facility will maintain eight to nine trains daily, performing upkeep after every 3,500 kilometers or four days of operation. This will ensure that the Vande Bharat trains remain in top condition, enhancing the travel experience for commuters.

Recent statistics show that Indian Railways aims to achieve 100% electrification by 2024. This modern facility aligns perfectly with that goal, promising a smoother and greener transport system.

As people repeatedly take to social media to discuss the improved services expected from these trains, it’s clear that there’s a buzz of anticipation surrounding this development. With trends showing growing public interest in sustainable and efficient transport, this facility represents a significant leap forward for Indian Railways.
