SpaceX is making significant progress at its launch facility in Boca Chica, Texas. With the downtime between two flights, the company is busy constructing Orbital Launch Pad B and starting the demolition of High Bay. The new pad is part of SpaceX’s plan for the next generation of its Starship program.

Recently, about 300 concrete trucks poured concrete for the flame trench, an essential part of the launch pad. This pouring was just one of many steps required to complete the pad. Following that, the team received steel wall pieces for the trench. These walls will be important for supporting the Orbital Launch Mount once it’s installed.

While work continues on the concrete, technicians are also focusing on the operational features of Pad B, including the chopsticks used for catching and stabilizing rockets. Recently, these chopsticks were lifted to the top of the launch tower after fixing some cable issues. As of now, they can move side to side, paving the way for further testing.

SpaceX has also installed a new Liquid Oxygen (LOX) pump and exhaust system. This is crucial as the launch pad will house multiple LOX and Liquid Methane (LCH4) pumps to support the rocket launches. Testing on these systems ensures they function properly, which is key to the launch operations.

In parallel, High Bay, which was vital for assembling rockets since 2020, is being dismantled to make way for Gigabay. This next-generation facility will have 24 workstations, allowing SpaceX to increase its manufacturing capacity significantly. This is essential as SpaceX gears up for an expanded fleet in the Starship program.
