Exciting Expansion: Montgomery County Food Bank Unveils Upgraded Facility in Conroe!

Montgomery County Food Bank recently celebrated a significant expansion of its facility, growing by 18,000 square feet. This new space will allow them to distribute an additional one million meals annually. With food insecurity affecting around 100,000 residents in the area, this expansion is timely and vital.

In 2024, nearly nine million meals were provided to families in need. The food bank’s leadership recognized the increasing demand and launched the “Build Today, Feed Tomorrow” campaign to enhance their service capabilities.

Kristine Marlow, President and CEO of the food bank, emphasized the importance of this expansion: “It’s about people, purpose, and partnership. This is an investment in our community’s future, enabling us to offer more fresh and nutritious food efficiently.”

Located in one of the fastest-growing counties in the U.S., the food bank is committed to addressing hunger head-on. The expansion includes improved volunteer facilities and increased food storage, especially for fresh produce. A new Produce Rescue Center will allow them to better manage and distribute fruits and vegetables, reducing food waste and maximizing community support.

Jim Carman, president of Howard Hughes Communities, highlighted the collective effort to make this project possible, including contributions from local businesses and individuals. Generous donations from groups like Huntsman Corporation, ExxonMobil, and the Woodforest National Bank were crucial in bringing this vision to life.

This generous support reflects a growing awareness of food insecurity, which continues to pose challenges. Current statistics indicate that around 10.5% of U.S. households experience food insecurity. The pandemic further highlighted the urgency of food support systems. Local food banks, like Montgomery County Food Bank, are essential in bridging that gap.

The food bank hosted a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on October 28 to mark this achievement, inviting community leaders and donors to see their contributions in action. With these new facilities, Montgomery County Food Bank is poised to become an even more significant resource for local families.
