Exciting Expansion: UFL Welcomes New Teams in Columbus, Louisville, and Orlando!

Last week, the United Football League (UFL) said goodbye to Michigan, Memphis, and San Antonio, while welcoming three new teams: the Columbus Aviators, the Louisville Kings, and the Orlando Storm. This change aims to create a more vibrant game-day experience by relocating to soccer stadiums.

The Aviators will play at Columbus’s Major League Soccer (MLS) stadium, the Kings will use a local soccer venue, and the Storm will take over the Orlando MLS facility. This shift aims to fill more seats and make the matches feel exciting and well-attended. UFL co-owner Mike Repole expressed pride in these new additions, emphasizing that Columbus, Louisville, and Orlando have strong sports traditions. He noted that the league is committed to delivering engaging experiences in lively, fan-friendly venues.

Additionally, two teams will be rebranded: the Arlington Renegades will become the Dallas Renegades, and the Houston Roughnecks will take on the Houston Gamblers name, a nod to a classic USFL team.

The upcoming 2026 season, set to kick off on March 27, will feature eight teams, with plans to expand to 16 in the coming years. Recent trends show that fans are keen on high-energy environments. According to a 2023 survey by Sports Business Journal, over 70% of fans believe a lively atmosphere is crucial for enjoying live sports. This underscores the UFL’s push for venues that encourage greater attendance and excitement.
