University of Jamestown Faculty Promotions for 2025

Several faculty members at the University of Jamestown (UJ) received promotions effective August 25, 2025, marking a significant milestone in their careers and contributions to the academic community.

Two faculty members advanced from associate professor to professor:

• Dr. Elizabeth Flory (Microbiology and Immunology) has been with UJ since 2017. She enjoys teaching microbiology lab and focuses on vaccine research to combat chlamydia.

• Dr. James Schanandore (Zoology) also joined UJ in 2017, teaching anatomy and physiology. His research uses forensic techniques to create biological profiles for deceased individuals.

In addition, eight faculty members were promoted from assistant professor to associate professor:

• Dr. Jessie Arneson (Molecular Biosciences) aims to improve scientific visualization skills among undergraduates, particularly in biology and biochemistry.

• Dr. Marc Carpenter (History and Political Science) has authored several important works, including The War on Illahee, which delves into genocide and complicity in North American history.

• Dr. Ernesto Fundora (Romance Studies) leads UJ’s Virtual Immersion Program and teaches various literature courses.

• Dr. Anne Gassmann (Choral Conducting) directs UJ’s choral ensembles and is an active performer in the Midwest and New York.

• Dr. Sheri Gunderson (Nursing) has been teaching nursing since 2008 and is currently pursuing her Doctor of Nursing Practice.

• Dr. Jonathan Lasco (Civil Engineering) researches flood resilience and teaches hydrology.

• Dr. Michael McIntyre (Theatre) has directed over 120 productions at UJ and teaches directing.

• Dr. Erik Sand (Computer Science) has been with UJ for over 40 years, sharing his extensive experience in technology education.

Additionally, Kevin Jauregui was promoted from instructor to assistant professor. He focuses on innovative teaching methods in mathematics, drawing from his previous ten years of high school experience.
